IPCEI Microelectronics

About IPCEI Microelectronics AT&S

The Important Project of Common European Interest on Microelectronics (IPCEI) is underpinning Europe’s microelectronics industry and is geared towards advancing microelectronics technology across the EU. The IPCEI Microelectronics was approved by the European Commission in December 2018 and will run until March 2024.

The IPCEI Microelectronics features projects with a dedicated focus on research and development as well as First Industrial Deployment (FID) in the following five fields of technology:

  • energy-efficient chips
  • power semiconductors
  • sensors
  • advanced optical equipment, and
  • compound materials.

The IPCEI Microelectronics partnership includes 32 companies as well as research & technology organizations from Austria, France, Germany, Italy, and the UK.

The benefits of the project will be shared beyond the IPCEI consortium, and the knowledge created in the project will be beneficial to organizations across Europe. It will create positive spillover effects across the semiconductor value chain and in other sectors.

AT&S – Part of IPCEI Microelectronics

In IPCEI on Microelectronics, AT&S is leapfrogging existing packaging technologies in specific and well- selected areas by focusing on implementing the next generation of packaging technology in Austria. This will be achieved by merging and combining 3 main existing competences of AT&S:

  • Main Board / High Density Interconnects
  • Substrate Technology
  • Component and Packaging Technology

Our four work packages are:

  • Functional cores for power-efficient substrates and packages
  • Novel Packaging concepts for High Speed and High Frequency electronics
  • Miniaturization for novel test and reference boards and other applications
  • Advanced production and testing capabilities

AT&S IPCEI spillover activities include the following:

› Industry collaboration & Research co-operations

Induced by IPCEI, AT&S will support and strengthen development activities across Europe across the value chain and with universities and RTOs. With these activities, we create positive spillover effects for Europe.

› Strengthen education and talents

AT&S will foster the involvement of universities in the area of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.
