AT&S showcases contributions to modern European Microelectronics Ecosystem
Over the past decade, the Austrian high-tech manufacturer AT&S has established itself as an integral part of the European Union’s strategy to create modern and independent supply chains for microelectronics. With innovative technology and a strong network of reliable partners across the continent, AT&S has been a leading contributor to two EU-funded Important Projects of Common European Interest (IPCEI) that have significantly improved local microelectronics and semiconductor ecosystems. On Tuesday, May 20, 2025, AT&S will host the Austrian IPCEI Day 2025 and the AT&S Prototyping Workshop in Leoben. These events will highlight the impressive technological breakthroughs achieved under the IPCEI ME/CT (Important Project of Common European Interest on Microelectronics and Communication Technologies) umbrella by AT&S and its Austrian IPCEI partners.
As one of Europe’s few global players in the microelectronic industry, AT&S has made vital contributions to the ongoing efforts to revitalize the microchip supply chains on the continent. The necessary investments in research, development and the first industrial deployment of new technologies and products have been supported by two EU-funded Projects of Common European Interest, which were specifically designed to improve the competitiveness of European industry and research.
For the ongoing IPCEI ME/CT project, AT&S is establishing an R&D line and a prototyping and small-volume line for advanced IC Substrates and advanced packaging technologies. AT&S is set to become the first European manufacturer that is able to provide Advanced Packaging technologies, which are crucial for the development of more powerful and efficient microchips in the future. The new facility in Leoben is on track to become a global hub for the development and production of IC Substrates for 2 nanometer node microchips, virtual system development and power-efficient semiconductor switches.
IPCEI program bears fruit
To showcase the impressive interim results achieved by the Austrian IPCEI ME/CT partners after three successful project years, AT&S will host the Austrian IPCEI Day 2025 on May 20 in Leoben. An AT&S Prototyping Workshop, offering a deeper dive into AT&S’s developments, will follow this event.
“The new competence center in Leoben is currently undergoing process qualification and will officially open in June 2025. This will be a significant milestone for AT&S’s contributions to IPCEI ME/CT. IPCEI has played an important role in our efforts for a long time now, and we are itching to show what we have achieved so far. The IPCEI Day offers an excellent opportunity to strengthen existing connections with other key players in the microelectronics industry, and we have prepared a diverse and exciting program for our guests,” says Hannes Voraberger, Director of Research and Development at AT&S.
Austrian IPCEI Day and AT&S Prototyping Workshop
Join us in Leoben for the Austrian IPCEI Day, starting at 08:30 am CET. This event will provide valuable insights into the Important Projects of Common European Interest on Microelectronics and Communication Technologies (IPCEI ME/CT). Attendees will benefit from presentations by experts from Austrian IPCEI ME/CT participants, along with an overview from representatives of Austria’s ministries for Innovation and Economy. Organized by AT&S AG in collaboration with AVL List GmbH, Ebner Group, Infineon Technologies Austria AG, NXP Semiconductors, and Silicon Austria Labs, this event promises to be a hub of knowledge and networking.
Following the IPCEI Day, the AT&S Prototyping Workshop will offer a deeper dive into the developments and results of the AT&S IPCEI ME/CT project in the afternoon. Participants will experience tangible examples, line tours, and engaging discussions.
